AN INTERESTING AND RARE DETONATOR IGNITION BLUNDERBUSS PISTOL BY FORREST, CIRCA 1820, no visible serial number,
with 11 1/4in. London proofed iron barrel with flared muzzle and baluster formed breech, the barrel tang with foliate decoration, bevelled borderline engraved lock with stepped tail, foliate engraving and sunburst, original makers 'FORREST' to the centre, originally made as a flintlock and later converted to detonator ignition, similar to the Forsyth scent lock, only in this case the hammer is connected to the magazine by a bar, cocking the hammer turns the magazine and deposits a small amount of fulminate on the anvil, as the hammer falls the magazine is turned back to its original position and a pointed nose on the hammer lines up with a small hole at the base of the magazine giving access to the anvil, full walnut stock with plain bag shaped grip, brass mounts including trigger-guard the bow engraved with floral decoration, pineapple finial, complete with replacement ramrod
