Product Details

E. NORTH, LONDON
A 12-BORE FLINTLOCK BRASS-BARRELLED BLUNDERBUSS, no visible serial number,
of coaching form circa 1770, with two-staged flaring 16 1/4in. barrel, moulded bands at the intersection and breech, the top of breech signed 'LONDON' forwards of a panel of scroll engraving, deeply struck London proofs and 'E.N.' oval maker's mark, shallow narrow sighting groove to top-tang, radiused iron lock signed 'E. NORTH' below the pan, borderline engraving and pointed tail, walnut hand-rail full-stock with shell carving around the top-tang, carved tear-drops behind the lock and pierced trophy brass sideplate, bordered oval brass escutcheon to wrist with classical mounts, broad brass long-spurred engraved brass heel-plate (heavy damage to edges in antiquity, see notes below), brass lower tang and bow, brass mounted wood ramrod

Other Notes: The vendor informs us that the heavy cuts to the brass heel-plate and rear edge of butt were caused by fending off sword blows that occurred during a fight with Customs Officials in which the original owner (name unknown) lost his life.
