Product Details

A SCARCE SABRE FOR AN ETHIOPIAN CAVALRY OFFICER WITH DAMASCUS BLADE, UNSIGNED,
first quarter of the 20th century and almost certainly of German manufacture, with broad curving 27in. blade of 'maiden-hair' damascus, narrow blind fuller along back edge, the first three fifths of the blade etched with a borderline arabesque panel profusely infilled with etched acanthus scrollwork inhabited by mythical beasts, in turn surrounding a vacant bordered rectangular box for a presentation inscription on the right and a panel on the left with a profile bust of the Ethiopian Emperor, possibly Menelik II, nickel 'P' shaped knuckle-bow with straight cross-guard (currently slightly distorted), rolled quillion and broad squared bevel-edged langets, moulded and ribbed hard rubber grip with front finger groove and plain back-strap with carved lionshead pommel, complete with its believed original simplistic leather scabbard with embossed decoration
