Birmingham hallmarks for 1888 (rubbed), with plain triangular cross-section 30in. blade fullered on each side for the first half, ribbed silver ferrule below a spirally ribbed ivory handle in turn mounted with a ribbed tapering silver pommel engraved with the initials 'J.B' on the top, naturalistic bamboo scabbard and brass ferrule with iron tip
