A BRITISH CAVALRY OFFICER'S 1796 PATTERN SABRE WITH BLUE AND GILT BLADE, POSSIBLY SIGNED 'GILL',
circa 1805, with broad strongly curved 32 1/2in. blade broadening at the tip, broad shallow fuller for the majority of its length, the first two fifths decorated with gilt filled martial etchings on a blue ground (left side faded), gilded maker's details below the broad langets (signature obscured), 'P' shaped iron knuckle-bow with straight cross-guard and rolled quillion, wire-bound leather grip, plain back-strap with side extensions and doveshead pommel (some staining and corrosion to hilt), complete with its iron service scabbard, the left hand side with oval makers panel near throat, possibly signed 'GILL'
