A GOOD BOER-WAR 7x57 (MAUSER) BOLT-ACTION REPEATING SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL '1896 MAUSER', serial no. B551,
circa 1897, with blued 30in. barrel, block and dove-tailed blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, blued receiver with brushed bright turned down bolt, squared and chequered safety, walnut three-quarter straight hand stock, the first half of the barrel with walnut handguard, the right hand side of butt with rare inlay of silver wire reading 'C. J. THEUNESSEN', blued iron furniture, bayonet lug to nose-cap and fitted with sling swivels, together with three volumes 'Carvings From The Veldt', volumes 1,2, & 3 by Dave C George.

Other Notes: This rifle is illustrated and talked about in Volume 2 of the included works where the inlay is attributed to the Boer War. As such, it is the only example of period silver wire inlay work on a Boer rifle known in Europe
