A BRASS-BOUND OAK AND LEATHER TRIPLE GUNCASE,
with lift-out barrel tray fitted for 30in. barrels (with detachable blocking inserts to adapt to 26 1/2in. barrels), the lower compartment with provision for snap-caps and accessories, the interior lined with red baize, brass lock (key missing), the lid exterior marked 'G.M. PICKENHAM HALL. NORFOLK.'
Provenance: Research would indicate 'G.M.' to be Guy Moreton of Pickenham Hall, described by Joseph Nickerson in his book "A Shooting Man's Creed" as "one of the best shots of all time, being not only accurate but very quick and rarely in need of a second barrel at a bird"
He was never without his gun lest the opportunity of a few birds presented itself, even going so far as to try and flush out some jackdaws from an abandoned church tower, Nickerson notes "Having stationed his friends he banged on the old oak door and shouted 'Come out you, Bastards!' The jackdaws obliged and were duly dispatched, whereupon there was a creaking sound, the door opened and a little old man put his head out to say. 'Excuse me Sir, but we are holding a service here'
