A FINE .461 (GIBBS) FALLING-BLOCK MATCH-RIFLE, MODEL 'FARQUHARSON'S PATENT', serial no. 1331/492,
circa 1860, with blued tapering round 34in. barrel, the short-rib at breech signed 'METFORD'S PATENT 1331', the top of barrel signed 'E. M. REILLY & CO., 277 OXFORD STREET, LONDON', large dove-tailed and threaded fore-sight block (no fore-sight included), folding ladder rear-sight, slab sided fully scroll engraved receiver (much faded colour-hardening), the left hand side with central oval panel signed 'GEORGE GIBBS, 29 CORN ST., BRISTOL', the right hand side marked at top front edge 'FARQUHARSON'S PATENT 492', fully scroll engraved long top-tang fitted with a base for a vernier tang-sight (absent), scroll engraved side cocking-lever with chequered thumb-piece, chequered walnut full pistol-grip butt-stock, the comb fitted with mount for back-position aperture sight (missing), ribbed horn heel-plate with scroll engraved screws, circular silver escutcheon to underside of butt, moulded horn pistol-grip cap, scroll engraved trigger-unit and under-lever, chequered trigger-blade and chequered and shaped rounded walnut fore-end with horn tip
