A COLLECTION OF FOUR ENGLISH FLINTLOCK TURN-OFF BOXLOCK POCKET-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
all last half of the 18th century, the first an all brass 54-bore with round 2 1/8in. barrel, squared central hammer action engraved with stands of flags and signed 'DUTTON, LONDON', slab-sided walnut butt and guarded trigger; the second with iron 60-bore 1 1/2in. cannon barrel, squared central hammer, iron action signed 'ARCHER, LONDON', swollen walnut butt with silver grotesque-mask cap hallmarked for Birmingham 1785 by maker Charles Frith and guarded trigger; the third an all iron type signed 'SEGLAS (sic.), LONDON' with unproved1 1/4in. cannon barrel (frozen), engraved iron action and butt (rubbed) and guarded trigger; the last of rounded form and signed 'W.A. BECKWITH, LONDON', 1 1/2in. barrel with engraved bands, trophy engraved action with concealed folding trigger and chequered bag-shaped butt, the first two with London proofs, the last Birmingham
