F.W. HOLLER, GERMANY
A RARE VARIANT GERMAN WORLD WAR TWO ARMY OFFICER'S SWORD, MODEL '21', no visible serial number,
circa 1936, with narrow, blind fullered and slightly curved 32 3/4in. blade (cleaned, traces of plating at forte only), flat sided oval trademark of F.W. HOLLER, SOLINGEN' beneath front langet, the langet itself integral with the carved brass cross-guard and relief-carved with a folded winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika, lionshead quillion, the underside of guard marked 'GES GESCH', 'P' shaped knucklebow, the outer face relief carved with acorns and oakleaves, the design repeated on the backstrap with 'back to back' acorns on the side-ears, the pommel carved as a lionshead in art deco form with inset red translucent stones for eyes, the ribbed grip-piece of black celluloid covered wood bound with triple wire strands, the centre ones twisted and complete with its black painted iron scabbard (repainted)

Other Notes: The German army officer's sword was produced in over 100 variations, multiplied even more if one takes into account potential blade etchings and mottoes. The Holler '21' with it's distinctive art deco lionshead pommel, so called because of it's manufacturers catalogue number, is one of the hardest to find
