A 12-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN WITH PREVIOUSLY UNRECORDED ACTION, serial no. 4657, circa 1860, with 29 3/4in. damascus barrels, the top rib signed 'WILLIAM JAMES HARVEY, 68 SOUTH STREET, EXETER', breech-end engraved with scrolls and starbursts around the pin-holes, scroll bordered back-action locks signed 'W. J. HARVEY', engraved with game scenes of hunting dogs flushing birds, scroll engraved hammers, the rounded action body with a short lever on the right hand side operating a locking cam in the action but allowing an extra-wide gape on the barrels when open, chequered walnut straight-hand stock (rear tang-nail replaced), iron heel-plate, chequered splinter fore-end with take-down wedge and horn inlaid tip, ironwork lightly worn, barrels heavily cleaned externally
