Product Details

A SCARCE MARBLES ARMS CORP. 'NO. 153 MARBLES AUXILIARY CARTRIDGE' Cartridge adaptor size No.153, .303 for use with .32 S&W Smokeless cartridges, of the slotted sprung form with integral firing pin, the headstamp reading 'MARBLES PATENT ED'.

Provenance: The Marbles Auxiliary cartridge was developed in the early 20th Century, an advert from 1915 elucidates on its usage:
'Places the pistol cartridge at the forward end of the shell chamber for firing. Bullet takes rifling immediately on being fired; does not strip and become deformed; does not lead the barrel. Gives thoroughly satisfactory results. It allows the use of very cheap ammunition for small game or target shooting in a large high powered rifle'
In the United States, several State Militia's adopted the use of these adaptors for target practice, both Illinois and Michigan being cited in the 1915 advert as adopting the use of them 'after exhaustive tests'. Production appears to cease in the early 1960's
