A VERY RARE CASED 50-BORE PERCUSSION 'HAMMERLESS' REVOLVER, MODEL 'PENNELL'S PATENT', no visible serial number,
circa 1855, with blued octagonal 5 3/8in. barrel, crescent fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight at back of top-strap, screw barrel-catch, plain cylinder of transitional revolver form with Birmingham proofs, two-piece frame engraved with borderlines and scrolls on the receiver and the top of action, safety-stud on the left side together with a belt-hook (possibly added), enclosed striker, scroll engraved top-tang and trigger-guard, moulded iron butt-cap with central scroll engraved trapdoor with void for caps, finely chequered one-piece walnut butt stamped around the base on both sides 'W. FINDLAY', vacant silver rectangular escutcheon to rear, Kerr-type rammer mounted to the left hand side of barrel, much finish remaining bar an older re-finish to the frame, complete in a period oak English market case, relined and compartmented for this revolver in green baize and including a fine James Dixon bag-shaped flask, a brass bullet mould and a cap-tin
