A .577 PERCUSSION SHORT-RIFLE, MODEL 'PRIVATE PURCHASE PATTERN 1860', no visible serial number,
circa 1865, with blued 33in. five-groove barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, commercial proofs and ordnance inspectors stamps, borderline engraved lock signed on the bar 'JNO DICKSON & SON, EDINBURGH', walnut full-stock, the underside near toe stamped 'B.L.C.', iron furniture, chained nipple protector and two iron barrel-bands, complete with a jag-ended ramrod

Provenance: According to factory records, this rifle was one of a number supplied to The Banker's Company (No.7) in the Edinburgh Rifle Volunteers. The 'B.L.C. stamp on this example would indicate that this rifle was supplied to the 'British Linen Company', one of the banks in the Company.
