A FINE CASED PAIR OF 26-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1785, with swamped octagonal 10in. barrels, dove-tailed bead fore-sights, no provision for rear-sights, gold poincon inlaid at rear of barrels marked in raised letters 'NOCK LONDON' together with a crown, plain gold band and an engraved band to the patent breeches, gold lined touch-holes, fully engraved top-tangs, colour hardened bevel-edged locks with stepped tails and signed 'H. NOCK' below the semi rain-proof pans, roller frizzens, swan-necked cocks, walnut full-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts featuring smooth central slab panels, guarded set triggers fitted with later finger-spurs, iron furniture and horn-tipped ramrods, both pistols with light cleaning to barrels otherwise in remarkably untouched condition and complete with their maker's walnut storage case lined and compartmented with coarse green baize (some small renewals) and containing all the original accessories including a scissors ball mould, a loading and cleaning rod and a lozenge bodied powder-flask together with other period sundries, the inside of lid with trapezoid parchment trade label explaining Nock's patent breech, the outside with flush fitting 'D' shaped handle to lid and hook closure
