A FINE BRITISH LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S 1796 PATTERN SABRE WITH BLUE AND GILT BLADE, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
circa 1810, with strongly curved 33in. broad fullered blade widening at the tip, the first half of the left side of blade engraved with floral devices, swags, an angel and a Georgian crown, all finished in gilt on a blue ground (some fading but generally strong and clear), the reverse similar but with a Royal coat of arms, the back edge marked 'WARRANTED' in gilt near the hilt, straight iron cross-guard with single rolled quillion and twin broad langets, 'P' shaped iron knucklebow with bevelled edges, wire bound leather covered grip and iron back-strap with doves-head pommel and twin reinforcing ears, complete with its iron scabbard of 'Trooper's style with provision for twin suspension rings (absent), the scabbard and hilt darkly stained.
