A PAIR OF 12-BORE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 17292 / 3,
30in. nitro chopperlump barrels, ribs engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL.', the breech ends with '1' and '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke (No.1) and imp. cyl. and 3/4 choke (No.2), toplevers engraved '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, removable striker discs, arrow cocking-indicators, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, retaining traces of colour-hardening and renewed finish, 15in. figured replacement stocks, weight 6lb. 14oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case, the lid outer with central brass escutcheon engraved 'CANDACRAIG STRATHDON ABERDEENSHIRE'

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were completed in April 1902 for a Mr F.L. Wallace. The records show that the stocks were temporarily lengthened in 1959 and permanently lengthened with cheekpads fitted in 1962. The No.2 gun was re-stocked in 1967. No mention of the current stocks being fitted feature in the records.
