circa 1860, of military form, with 33in. blued barrel signed 'WHITWORTH PATENT', adjustable tunnel fore-sight, broad elevating ladder rear-sight, plain top-tang with raised cheese-head nail, borderline engraved lock signed on the bar 'WHITWORTH RIFLE CO, MANCHESTER' and with the Whitworth wheatsheaf trade-mark to tail, figured walnut three-quarter stock with chequered grip and fore-end, iron mounts including three barrel-bands, trigger-guard and heel-plate, provision for sling and iron ramrod with jag head, period Birmingham proof marks.
