circa 1845, with plain round ribbon-twist 30in. browned two-groove barrel, applied blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with additional folding leaf, knock-off breech, plain top-tang, borderline engraved back-action lock signed 'P.J. MALHERBE' with border engraved hammer, walnut full-stock (hairline crack and inlet repair to butt-end) with heavy brass furniture including patchbox (numbered inside lid), heel-plate (engraved with the double headed Russian Eagle and 'No 422'), oval escutcheon to wrist engraved with a crowned monogram, trigger-guard, the lower tang with finger-spur and ramrod pipes and iron ramrod with brass cup tip
