A .577 (APPROX.) SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING CARBINE, no visible serial number, WITH MATCHING MOULD,
circa 1850, with browned twist 23 1/2in. round barrel rifled in four broad grooves for a 'Jacob' style winged bullet, the flat sighting plane signed at breech 'GEORGE H. DAW' and in front of rear-sight '57 THREADNEEDLE ST. LONDON', dove-tailed blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with provision for three folding leaves (one absent), fully scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved lock signed on the bar 'GEORGE H. DAW', engraved dolphin headed hammer, chequered walnut half-stock with iron furniture including engraved patch-box to the right hand side of butt, spurred lower tang and engraved fore-end cap, complete with a heavy duty under-barrel mahogany ramrod and a period brass single cavity mould with turned mahogany handle.
