Product Details

STAN SHAW, SHEFFIELD
A MAGNIFICENT BOXED ELEVEN-FUNCTION SILVER-MOUNTED ENGRAVED EXHIBITION KNIFE, serial no. 009,
with hallmarks for Sheffield 1992, approximately 7in. overall, with brass internal bolsters and solid silver engraved external mounts, each separated by a smooth mother of pearl scale and including a large turnscrew, two drop-point blades, a wood saw, a lambsfoot blade, a large lambsfoot blade, a button-hook, a large drop-point blade, a fleam and a pair of scissors, each feature signed and matching numbered and with chisel carved mainspring and back, appearing unused in its maker's wood box with flock lining, together with a publication and other paperwork pertaining to the knife and the maker.

Provenance: After working for a number of the more illustrious Sheffield knife makers such as Ibbersons, Wostenholm, John Clarke and John Watts, the changing face of the Sheffield knife industry forced Stan Shaw to 'go it alone' in the early 1980's. By the 1990's he was amongst the most respected producers of exhibition knives, and being a one man band had a long waiting list for his products. Specialising in multi-blade pocket knives, mother of pearl scales are one of his particular favourites, and even has his own hallmark registered at the assay office.
