A WORLD-WAR TWO KATANA WITH GENERAL OFFICER'S SHIN-GUNTO MOUNTS AND SIGNED BLADE, WITH RELEASE PAPERS,
the curving 27in. blade with one tiny edge-nick and mild staining, visible 'hamon' running around the tip, copper 'habaki' with cat-scratches, the narrow tang signed on both sides and with single 'mekugi-ana' (heavily rusted), brass pierced 'tsuba' with copper mounts, shin-gunto mounts to hilt with push-button scabbard lock, polished ray-skin 'saya' with leather cover, single suspension ring-mount (ring absent), together with the outer cover of a British soldier's service and pay-book, the interior containing a pasted release certificate for the sword stating 'This is to certify that (no) 10596133 (rank) Sgt. (Name) Twite C.L. has been presented with a JAPANESE SWORD and is authorised to retain it as a souvenir. It is no longer of any intelligence or training value' and signed by the Lieut. Colonel of C R Signals 2nd Division and dated Mar. '46
