Product Details

* A RARE 7mm CRANK-WOUND GALLERY AIR-RIFLE SIGNED 'J. GRUDCHOS & S. EGGERS', MODEL 'PRIMARY NEW-YORK TYPE', no visible serial number,
mid 19th century, the brushed bright octagonal 21 1/2in. barrel signed in inlaid yellow metal 'J. GRUDCHOS & S. EGGERS NEW BEDFORD MASS' and rotating sideways to load, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, large diameter brushed bright plain air-chamber, applied broad plain top-tang, walnut chequered butt-stock with raised cheek-piece, iron heel-plate, complex iron escutcheons to both sideds of stock head, the right hand side with square head for winding key (supplied), iron trigger-guard bow with raised scrolled lower tang and full length 'stutzen' fore-end (cracked through and repaired, numerous small inlets), refinished.

Provenance: This interesting airgun is possibly the work of David Lurch of New-York. It is an unusual variant in that the crank handle has a square socket that leaves the drive in the action of the rifle unlike the majority that utilise a splined key operating directly onto the internal cogwheel
