29in. Whitworth-steel nitro chopperlump barrels, ribs engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. 64 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. S.W. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL.' (faint) and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and true cyl. choke, carved arcaded fences with side-clips, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, removable striker discs, the action faces engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. THE AUTOMATIC TRADEMARK', protruding tumbler pivots with gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, best fine acanthus scroll engraving, retaining some renewed colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/4in. well-figured replacement stocks, weight 6lb. 8oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that these guns were completed as a pair of 12-bore best quality double barrel hammerless ejector guns completed in August 1896 for Rt. Hon. Lord Burghclere, barrel length 29".
