28in. nitro barrels (No.2 nitro reproved), the ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and engraved 'ARMSTRONG & CO. NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTHS FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL.' (No.1 engraving refreshed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and full choke (No.1) 1/2 and full choke (No.2), treble-grip actions, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking indicators, bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed bright finish, 15 1/4in. figured stocks (some ink enhancement, including 1 1/4in. wooden extensions, both cracked at hand), weight 6lb. 13oz. (both), in their brass-cornered leather case, the lid exterior marked 'EARL OF ORFORD'

Provenance: Research would indicate the Earl of Orford to be Robert Horace Walpole, 5th Earl of Orford (1854 - 1931).
