R. ADAMS FOR LONDON ARMOURY CO.
A GOOD 50-BORE PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'ADAMS' PATENT', serial no. 32428R,
circa 1860, with blued octagonal integral 5 3/4in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight to rear of top-strap, the top-strap signed 'ROBERT ADAMS 76 KING WILLIAMS STREET, LONDON E.C.', the top-strap also engraved with an armorial of an arm clutching a wreath over the gothic initials 'G.E.G..', London Armoury stamps to barrel and cylinder arbor mount, borderline engraved frame with sliding cylinder lock and marked 'B16754' over 'ADAMS PATENT No. 32428R', the same number repeated on the plain blued cylinder, semi-sawbacked chequered walnut one-piece grip, the rear inlet with a socket for a detachable shoulder-stock (absent), shallow domed iron pommel cap and guarded trigger, articulated rammer to the left hand side of barrel, the whole retaining the majority of its original factory blued finish

Provenance: Research would indicate the crest and 'G.E.G.' could be that of George Edward Grover.

He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England. He gained the rank of Captain on 3 August 1872. He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.).
