original 30in. nitro reproved barrels (in 1975), rib engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS. 178. NEW BOND ST. LONDON.', and gold-inlaid '2' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and full choke, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum;
new 28in. nitro barrels (in 1974), rib engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. ENGLAND' and gold-inlaid '2' at the breech end, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke;
scroll-back treble-grip action, toplever gold-inlaid '2' and engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT EJECTOR', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, fine acanthus scroll engraving, the triggerguard with a pointer, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 15 7/8in. well-figured stock, slightly cast on and including 1 7/8in. wooden extension, silver escutcheon engraved 'H.P. 1909', fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release, gold-inlaid '2' and horn finial, weight 6lb. 7oz. (original barrels) and 6lb. 11oz. (new barrels), together with the original silvers pads for both guns of the pair

Provenance: The vendor kindly informs us that the gun was formerly the property of Hilton Philipson, (1892-1941) elected as a National Liberal Party MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed in the 1922 General Election.
He was unseated on petition in 1923 (due to a fraud involving his agent) and in the resulting by-election, was replaced by the conservative candidate and actress Mabel Philipson (1887-1951), his wife at the time. Mabel Philipson was just the third female member to serve in the House of Commons, after it became legally possible in 1918.
