28in. black powder only fine damascus barrels with Henry rifling, partially matted broad rib with open sights and folding leaf sight for 200 yards and raised bead foresight, rib engraved 'ALEXr. HENRY LTD. MAKERS TO THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESS' THE PRINCE OF WALES AND DUKE OF EDINBURGH.', the barrel flats stamped spuriously 'nitro' and 'cordite', Henry patent action, patent no. 5273 of 1882, the standing breech with an oval engraved 'HENRY'S PATENT NO.100', rotary underlever, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, swept back-action lockplates, fine acanthus scroll engraving with beaded and crosshatch borders, brushed finish overall, 14 3/8in. figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, engraved steel pistolgrip-cap (with trap) and steel heel and toe plates, fore-end with elongated grip-catch release lever, weight 9lb. 9oz., with a leather leg of mutton slip

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed on the 17th May 1886 as one of a batch of four for Manton & Co., Calcutta
