A RARE FRENCH NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD WITH CONSULATE PERIOD HILT, SIGNED 'B.S.B.'
circa 1800, the re-blacked narrow diamond cross section 32 1/2in. blade with traces of engraved detail and signed at the forte 'B.S.B.', carved and moulded gilded brass hilt, the knuckle-bow gadrooned along the inner edge, outer shell guard carved with a trophy of flags bordered by floral carving, central oval panel with dot border and central fouled anchor and Imperial eagle device, slab-sided chequered ebony grip with carved tramline edges and slightly cranked pommel carved with anchors to the sides and gadrooned cap, complete with its brass mounted black leather scabbard (leather possibly renewed in antiquity)
