A SCARCE BRONZE ISSUE OF 'DAVISON'S NILE MEDAL' TOGETHER WITH A BRONZE 'WELLINGTON HALFPENNY TOKEN',
struck by Nelson's own prize agent, Alexander Davison to celebrate Nelson's victory at the Battle of the Nile in 1798, 47mm in diameter, the front depicting a figure of Peace caressing a shield decorated with a portrait of Nelson, the reverse showing the British fleet at Aboukir Bay, the edge inscribed with the maker's details (generally good and unpolished, the edge with some minor denting and pitting, evidence of solder possibly from a previous suspender), contained within a later glazed metal frame, the Wellington Halfpenny token struck after the battle of Salamanca in 1812 and featuring a portrait of Wellington, the reverse with battle honours 'CUIDAD RODRIGO', 'BADAJOZ' & 'SALAMANCA', (slightly rubbed, pierced for suspension)
