30in. nitro reproved damascus barrels, rib engraved 'F.H. HOLMES. STAFFORD' and carved with a shell at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, action incorporating William Powell patent lift-up toplever, patent no. 1163 of 7th May 1864, use number 940, William Powell patent lift-up toplever engraved with a roundel inscribed 'POWELL'S PATENT', carved serpentine fences with Powell patent gold-inlaid 'Loaded' indicators, patent no. 1055 of 1869, bar-in-wood, rebounding sidelocks with flat sided hammers of hare's-ear form, border and crosshatch border engraving, retaining much renewed finish, 14 3/8in. well-figured stock including blued steel buttplate, fore-end with horn finial, weight 6lb. 15oz.
