published 1987 by William Kimber & Co. Ltd. with personal dedication from the author on the frontispiece, numbering 246 pages with a large number of black and white images, complete with its dust jacket, together with the author's original manuscript with annotations and original maps, housed in a foolscap dossier

Provenance: Maj.-Gen. 'Pip' Roberts C.B., D.S.O., M.C. was on the staff of 7th Armoured Division in June 1940 and then went to 4th Armoured Brigade as Brigade Major, taking part in O'Connor's spectacular offensive against the Italians culminating in the battle of Beda Fomm in February 1941. His first command was of 3rd Royal Tank Regiment after the Crusader offensive and he led them in the desperate fighting on the Gazala Line in June 1942. At the end of First Alamein he took command of 22nd Armoured Brigade which played the crucial role in turning back Rommel at Alam Halfa. He led it through the Second Alamein and the pursuit of Rommel across Libya and ended the desert campaign in command of the 26th Armoured Brigade.

For the Normandy campaign he was appointed to lead 11th Armoured Division (part of Dempsey's 2nd Army) and commanded it from Normandy to the Baltic.
