26in. nitro reproved replacement barrel (in 2014) block-mounted open sights with four folding leaf sights, bone and white metal inlaid sight lines and marked for 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 yards, block-mounted bead foresight with folding protector hood, the breech end mounted with a Kahles & Bondy brass and steel telescopic sight engraved with Rigby details (partially obscured), and 'KNUTSFORD. KNEESWORTH HALL. LENT BY VISCOUNT KNUTSFORD. ROYSTON. HERTS.', the quickly-detachable sight mount bases (one replaced, original present) with blanking plates, the barrel engraved 'GEORGE GIBBS. BRISTOL & 35. SAVILE ROW. LONDON. W.', frame number 904, signed on the left 'GEORGE GIBBS. BRISTOL', safety lever with gold 'BOLTED' detail on the right, fine floral and scroll engraving, brushed finish overall, 14 1/8in. figured pistolgrip stock with sling eyes, engraved steel pistolgrip-cap (with trap), including chequered steel buttplate, escutcheon engraved 'SYDNEY HOLLAND', in its full length leather case, the case lid marked 'VISCOUNT KNUTSFORD. KNEESWORTH HALL. ROYSTON.

Provenance: The rifle would have been completed circa 1894.

Sydney Holland, 2nd Viscount Knutsford (19th March 1855 - July 31st 1931) was educated at Wellington College and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. In 1879 he was called to the bar and spent his career as a barrister, whilst also holding Directorships for a number of companies (including international banks and the Underground Electric Railways Company).
He succeeded to the title Viscount in 1914.
