30in. black powder only octagonal barrel engraved 'GEORGE GIBBS, 29, CORN STREET, BRISTOL', block mounted open sights with folding leaf sight, inlaid sight lines and marked for 50 and 100 yards, adjustable aperture front sight, later dovetailed telescopic sight mount bases, the breech end with 'METFORD'S PATENT 1100', (partially obscured by sight mount base), the top tang with folding aperture back sight, action and furniture profusely engraved with fine floral and acanthus scroll designs, the left side with 'GEORGE GIBBS BRISTOL' engraved in a floral bordered oval, the right side with 'FARQUHARSON'S PATENT 357', side mounted cocking lever, retaining some original colour-hardening, 14 3/8in. figured pistolgrip stock with left handed cheekpiece, horn pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, in its full length brass-mounted green velvet-lined leather case

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle dates to circa 1897.
