A RARE 52-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE, MODEL 'WHITWORTH PATENT', serial no. F562,
circa 1860, with 27in. re-blued steel Whitworth rifled barrels bored from a single blank, bead fore-sight, short quarter-rib marked 'WHITWORTH MANCHESTER' and struck with the Whitworth trade mark, rear-sight of one standing and five folding leaves calibrated to 500 yards and each with platinum-inlaid centre-line, re colour case-hardened patent breeches each with platinum plug, re colour case-hardened tang and bolted locks, the latter each signed 'THE WHITWORTH COMPANY LIMITED' and struck with the trade mark, figured walnut capped pistol-grip half-stock with chequered grip and fore-end, case-hardened mounts, silver escutcheon, and original ramrod, Birmingham proof marks
