A 14-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED PIGEON GUN, serial no. 1342,
for 1854, with 30in. twist steel barrels, the top rib signed 'THOMAS BOSS, 73 St. JAMES'S ST. LONDON' (faint and rubbed) together with the number '2', scroll engraved breech end and top tang, platinum plugs and lines to breech, border and scroll engraved locks signed 'THOMAS BOSS', figured walnut chequered half-stock with silver escutcheon to underside of butt, scroll engraved iron furniture, decorative iron finial to the chequered fore-stock (refinished throughout)

Provenance: We are kindly informed by the makers that this shotgun was ordered 13th July 1854 by Sir Hedworth Williamson to match gun no.1198.

Sir Hedworth Williamson, 7th Baronet, was born 1st November 1797 into a landed County Durham family. He was a member of the Whigs and represented both County Durham and Sunderland during his time as an M.P. He died 24th April 1861 and his son acceeded to the baronetcy.
