Product Details

W. J. JEFFERY & CO.
A STEYR 6.5mm BOLT-MAGAZINE SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 658 / 14280,
25 1/4in. barrel sighted to 300 yards and engraved 'SIGHTED AND SHOT BY W.J. JEFFERY & CO., 60 QUEEN VICTORIA STREET LONDON', numbered 658 and with number 14280 marked on the knox form, with crossed pennants mark, receiver numbered 658, marked 'STEYR 1893' and with further crossed pennants mark, cocking-piece with folding aperture sight, fitted with a Jeffery patent side-mounted vertical post graticule telescopic sight, patent no. 1995 of 31st January,1900, engraved 'PATENTED BY W.J. JEFFERY & CO. 1900', 14 1/4in. stock including 1 1/4in. wood extension, blued magazine-box / trigger-guard, sling eyes, in original leather bound canvas full length case

Other Notes: The crossed pennant marks, added after civilian proof, indicate that the rifle spent a period of time in British Military service. Rifles in the larger .333 Jeffery high velocity calibre were tried and tested to be very effective against German sniper armoured protective plates. It is suggested that this rifle was likely sequestered or donated for use in sniping or sniper training at a time where scoped rifles were in desperately short supply.
