AN EXCEPTIONAL CASED PAIR OF 140-BORE OVER-UNDER EXHIBITION QUALITY PERCUSSION TRAVELLING PISTOLS WITH IVORY BUTTS,
circa 1840, with round 1 1/2in. brightly finished turn-off barrels, the makers name relief engraved in script with a matt ground on the top barrels, further bands of floral arabesque relief engraving on a matt ground at the muzzles and breech-ends, border-lined similarly engraved bright box-lock actions with top-mounted hammers engraved en-suite, bag-shaped ivory butts with further floral arabesque relief carving on a green ground, steel border engraved butt-traps with shell-shaped covers (one pistol with slight losses to ivory around butt-trap, both with slight age cracks and minor areas of staining), fully relief engraved bottom tangs en-suite with the actions and concealed single-triggers TOGETHER WITH their original mahogany case with brass-banded lid, the interior lined in dark burgundy velvet and compartmented in the continental style for the pistols and a number of accessories of which only the matching barrel/nipple key combination tool remains (lock escutcheon missing, brass banding lifting on lid)
