circa 1845, with 28in browned barrels signed 'T E MORTIMER EDINBURGH, LATE ST JAMES ST LONDON', scroll engraved breech-end and platinum plugs, best quality scroll and border-line engraved bar-action locks signed 'T E MORTIMER, GEORGE ST', 'C'-scroll dolphin headed hammers engraved en-suite with the locks, walnut chequered half-stock with bolsters forward of the lock-plates, long-spurred heel-plate with scroll and twist engraved spur, trigger guard en-suite with the heel-plate, triple-ball and horned finial, silver escutcheons for the cross-pin, engraved ram-rod pipe throat and original ram-rod (the whole retaining the majority of its original finish, some loss to guard and heel-plate), TOGETHER WITH a period oak, baize lined compartmented case for gun no. 5865 with nearly a full compliment of period accessories including a 'Bartram' powder-flask, white metal 'snail' capper, turn-screws and shot chargers, makers label to lid and circular brass escutcheon with ring handle.
