A SCARCE 12-BORE ELLIS & WILKINSON 1877 PATENT TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 2161,
circa 1884, 29 1/4in. black powder only bold damascus barrels (loose on action), the rib engraved 'STANLEY HIGHAM. WARRINGTON.', and with '2' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl and 1/2 choke, some partially repaired bulges, slender toplever engraved '2', rebounding sidelocks with high-spurred hammers of hare's-ear form, the action flats with patent use marking for James Purdey patent double bite, patent no. 1104 of 2nd May 1863, use number 7959, the barrels with C. O. Ellis and E.W. Wilkinson patent sliding fore-end, patent no. 292 of 23rd January 1877, fine acanthus scroll engraving with beaded bordering, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/4in. pistolgrip stock with horn pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, weight 6lb. 14oz.
