A SCARCE 12-BORE HENRY ELLIOTT 1863 PATENT PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER ROTATING SINGLE-BOLT SNAP-ACTION BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMERGUN, serial no. 3055,
circa 1865, 30in. black powder only reproved (in 1970) fine damascus barrels with short engraved raised sight rib, ramped bead fore-sight, the sunken rib engraved 'WIGGAN & ELLIOTT MAKERS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY & THE PACHA OF EGYPT', the breech end with fine scroll detailing and 'ELLIOTTS PATENT.' in gothic script (possible conversion from pinfire with plugged pinfire apertures), 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, Henry Elliott patent action, patent no. 1782 of 16th June 1863, push-forward underlever, carved fences, rebounding back-action locks with high spurred hammers of hare's-ear form, fine acanthus scroll engraving with feathered bordering, the top strap and action flats with Elliot patent details in an oval, the flats also engraved 'W. PHILLIPSON', 14 3/4in. highly-figured stock (figuring enhanced) including chequered horn buttplate, slender 10 1/4in. fore-end with ornately fluted horn finial, the iron engraved 'REGD. NOVR. 9TH 1863 NO. 4594', weight 6lb. 3oz.
