circa 1887, 28in. nitro reproved octagonal barrel (smoothbored to .410 from .295 rook), file cut top flat, open sights with two folding leaf sights, white metal sight lines and marked 50, 100 and 150, bead fore-sight, the breech end engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND ST. LONDON. .295 SEMI SMOOTH BORE. WINNERS OF ALL THE 'FIELD' RIFLE TRIALS, 1883.' 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. full choke, non-selective ejector, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of original colour-hardening 14 1/2in. figured pistolgrip stock with steel pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, fore-end with crosspin release and replacement wood, weight 5lb. 9oz.
