for 1876, 28 1/2in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, the rib gold-inlaid in gothic script 'Westley Richards & Co. 170 New Bond Street London.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum and pitted, treble-grip action, patent no. 1756 of 1875, use number 80, with modified design cocking levers of pyramidal shape, Westley Richards patent toplever, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail (missing inlay), action with side flutes, fully-engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork, the makers name in scrolling banners to the sides, 14 1/4in. highly-figured stock, bolstered fore-end with horn finial and Deeley & Edge patent release catch, weight 6lb. 6oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was ordered on January 15th 1876 for a Colonel Powell.
