Product Details

BACON MFG. CO., USA
AN UNUSUAL .38 (RIMFIRE) FIVE-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'METALLIC CONVERSION' or 'DICTATOR', serial no. 2292,
converted circa 1874, with round 4in. barrel (as fitted to the 2nd model) signed on the top 'DICTATOR', wedge barrel fastener, under-barrel rammer, five-shot cylinder roll engraved with five panels each containing a different subject (as fitted to the 1st model), open iron frame with extended standing breech and large cartridge cut-out on the right hand side, single action mechanism and smooth flared walnut grips, minimal traces of finish, some dark staining

Provenance: Bacon revolvers were sold under a variety of names but the trademark 'Dictator' is not listed. Less than 1000 revolvers were produced with the five panel roll engraved cylinder indicating this is possibly a parts clear-up gun assembled by Hopkins & Allen who took over Bacon in 1867 and were known to use the trademark 'Dictator' on some of their products
