A .36 PERCUSSION REVOLVER MODEL 'POCKET MODEL OF NAVY CALIBRE', serial no. 5909,
for circa 1863/64, with octagonal 6 1/2in. barrel signed 'ADDRESS COL SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', brass bead fore-sight, plain five-shot cylinder with stagecoach scene (rubbed), open iron frame marked 'COLTS PATENT', brass trigger-guard and grip-straps, light wear to the walnut grip, all matching numbers bar the un-numbered wedge, slight traces of finish
Provenance: Current opinion is now certain that the 1862 Police model and the Pocket Model of Navy Calibre (previously known variously as the 'Model of 1863' or even the 'Model 1862 Pocket Navy' were actually serial numbered in their own ranges and did not share serials as previously thought. The production run for the Pocket Model of Navy Calibre appears to have been from around 1863-65 to approximately 1872 with only around 22,000 pieces produced. Considering a large proportion of the production was subsequently converted or re-manufactured to metallic cartridge, the Pocket Model of Navy Calibre is a difficult revolver for a Colt collector to source
