smoothbored from an oval-bore patent rifle of 1853, with bold damascus 34in. barrels, raised flat top-rib signed 'CHARLES LANCASTER, 151 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON' and still retaining the original silver dove-tailed fore-sight and standing notch rear-sight with twin additional folding blades, engraved end to rib at breech, platinum plugs, fully scroll engraved top-tang, fully scroll engraved bar-action locks signed in superposed crescent banners 'C. LANCASTER' over 'LONDON', en-suite hammers with engraved dolphin heads, chequered walnut half-stock, engraved iron furniture, engraved oval barrel key escutcheons and brass mounted wood ramrod, complete in its manufacturers brass cornered walnut storage case lined in pale green velvet and including a matching serial number pair of hammers for Smith's Patent caps, a nipple key with pricker, a Dixon powder flask, a brass ball mould, a brass muzzle cap, a spring-cramp, wad punch and patch-pot and a tin of Joyce Patent caps, lids present for all compartments, parchment makers label inside lid, some insect damage to label and case front

Provenance: According to the maker's records, this gun was manufactured as a 14-bore oval-bored rifle and was one of a batch of five 34in. barrelled rifles made in 1853 for the Hudson Bay Company
