A CASED 54-BORE PERCUSSION ROOK & RABBIT RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1850, with rebrowned octagonal twist iron 30in. barrel signed 'W. POWELL' at breech, small applied blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with additional folding leaf, colour hardened breech-block with scroll engraving and single platinum line, borderline and scroll engraved colour hardened top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved colour hardened back-action lock signed 'W. POWELL', engraved slab-sided dolphin headed hammer, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, blued iron furniture, plain trigger and white-metal fore-end cap, complete with its original worm-ended ramrod and in a period walnut storage case lined and compartmented in burgundy velvet and containing a ball mould, both probably original to this rifle
