AN EARLY CASED PAIR OF 28-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING-PISTOLS, serial no. 2241,
for 1795-96, with browned twist 10in. octagonal barrels signed in gilt on the top-flats 'MANTON LONDON' (traces of scratch rifling), elongated bead fore-sights, shallow standing notch rear-sights, gold line at the breech end and gold-lined touch-holes, border and trophy engraved top-tangs, slightly curved, flat, bevel-edged locks signed 'MANTON', gold-lined rain-proof pans, roller frizzens, swan-necked cocks with sliding safes behind (one cock missing spindle-screw), walnut full-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts each with plain flat strips to each side (one pistol cracked through and repaired behind lock in antiquity), engraved double roll-edged trigger guards and horn-tipped ramrods, both pistols generally in very 'untouched' condition and complete with their makers walnut storage case lined and compartmented in green baize and including original accessories such as lozenged handled stripping tool, squared handled loading rod, pan brush, scissors ball mould and three-way flask, all in their respective fitted compartments
