North African, possibly Moroccan circa 1840, with iron 49in. barrel, bulbous muzzle, shallow moulded sighting ridge, possible London proofs at breech, dove-tailed rear-sight to front of top-tang, plain snaphaunce lock with automatic pan-cover and squared hammer-jaws, wood full-stock with engraved iron reinforcing plates around the lock, fan-tailed butt with flat marine ivory heel-plate and moulded iron top and bottom straps, the remainder covered in a mixture of pierced white-metal panels, applied white metal medallions, bone or marine ivory panels, some with coral decoration and furnished with nineteen white metal engraved barrel-bands, white metal inlaid trigger guard and tang and engraved iron ramrod, wear to engraved detail
