A CONTINENTAL HUNTING HANGER WITH GILT DECORATION,
almost certainly French circa 1720, with slightly curving 21 1/2in. blade (worn and stained), rebated moulded iron locket at lower guard for scabbard (scabbard absent), symmetrical iron cross-guard with slightly turned down quillions, both sides bordered in marcasite and with a gold bordered central floral panel of oval form on a gilt background of fishscale pattern, ribbed iron asymmetrical grip with rows of marcasite separating moulded ribs, the ribs decorated in gilt fishscale patterning and featuring larger gold oval panels of floral decoration and with en-suite decorated pommel cap with bead nut, the grip fitted with small loops for a chain guard, now absent
